One of the biggest holes in the Roma defense, left back, may be filled sooner rather than later. Reports from Sky Sports Italiac laim that Roma has given PSG until Sunday to make their decision on Lucas Digne. Should Digne remain in PSG, Roma will look to make an offer for 22- year old Schalke 04 fullback, Sead Kolasinac, as a possible replacement.
As you may already know, Roma does not have many options at left back after Ashley Cole. So a move for the young Bosnian is very much needed to add depth and quality to a Roma side whose biggest weakness may be the left back position.
Now, for those unfamiliar with Sead Kolasinac, he is quite a unique prospect. At 6'0 feet (183cm), and weighing an impressive 181 pounds (82kg), Sead is exceptionally taller and stronger than most fullbacks in Europe. With such a large frame, Sead Kolasinac is able to dispossess attackers quite easily and hold on to the ball well. The young fullback is also known to be a player who does not fatigue easily and will press the opposition until the final whistle. However, the Bosnian international has been known to be caught out of position when aggressively pursuing the ball and can leave his defense exposed.
In the 2013-2014 Bundesliga season, Kolasinac played a total of 30 games with 27 of those games as a starter. After averaging 2.9 tackles per game, picking up 3 assists, and having the best season of his career, the Bosnian had established himself as a consistent starter for Schalke. However, the following year, Sead fell out of the lineup after picking up a cruciate ligament rupture. Playing a total of 8 games in all competitions, Kolasinac was unable to make an impact for an underachieving Schalke side.
Transfermarkt.com currently rates the young Bosnian at 7 million euros, which may be due to the injury he picked up last season. Seven million euros will be a steal if we can acquire a player of his potential for such a low cost.
Either way, Roma desperately needs a LB who can come in and make an impact on the squad and I think Kolasinac may just be the man for the task. Let's see if Sabakadabra has one more trick up his sleeve.
