It's a testament to the enormity of the Champions League that a simple logistical exercise has suddenly become a must-see event, but here we are, the day is upon us. This year's UEFA conclave has descended upon the principality of Moncao, where the powers that be will soon dictate the fates of Europe's biggest clubs and, if they have time, that one from Kazakstan. Fortunately for us, UEFA has deigned us worthy of viewing this event without having to resort to back channel streams.
Thanks to a little help from their friends, Roma has avoided last year's fate, dwelling in pot four where they're sure to encounter a group of death, and have settled firmly in pot three. Small progress is what Roma is aiming for, after all.
Pot 1: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Benfica, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Zenit St. Petersburg, PSV
Pot 2: Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, FC Porto, Arsenal, Manchester United, Valencia, Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen
Pot 3: Shakhtar Donetsk, Sevilla, Olympique Lyonnais, Dynamo Kiev, Olympiacos Piraeus, CSKA Moscow, Galatasaray, AS Roma
Pot 4: BATE Borisov, Borussia M'gladbach, Wolfsburg, Dinamo Zagreb, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, KAA Gent, Malmo FF, Lokomotiv Astana
We discussed Roma's best and worst case scenarios yesterday, so let's keep our fingers crossed and hope Roma avoids Munich, Barcelona or any of the other super heavy weights from Pot 1.
