Lucas Digne Named to France's Euro 2016 Squad

At all of 22-years-old and fresh off his best season as a pro, Lucas Digne has been named to Didier Deschamp's France squad for next month's Euros.

With so many seemingly can't miss prospects working their way towards Rome, we talk a lot about finding the ideal place to nurture their talents, somewhere they will earn regular minutes against quality competition. While Roma seldom hits this nail on head, the same cannot be said for PSG, at least not when discussing young Lucas Digne.

Unless you were an avid Ligue 1 fan, you probably weren't intimately familiar with Digne, so when Roma started circle around him, you probably thought "great, another useless Frenchman, here we go again." Well, 41 appearances and over 3,000 minutes later and it's safe to say those concerns have been allayed. Digne was a starter from day one and has become an indispensible part of Roma's lineup, teaming up with Alessandro Florenzi to create one of the league's most athletic fullback pairings.

Considering all that, it shouldn't really have been shock that Digne was named to France's Euro 2016 squad, but Roma's resident hipster was a bit taken back by the news, calling it a nice surprise.

While Digne is not without his detractors, and didn't really have to beat out anyone under the age of 30 for this spot, at 22-years-old and coming off his first full time season, this is quite the accomplishment for Digne.

Digne will be joined by Antoine Griezman, Paul Pogba, and Anthony Martial, among others, giving Les Bleus one of the stronger squads in Euro 2016, which kicks off in less than one month.
