As they have seemingly done every year since the American takeover, AS Roma is making a left at the Atlantic and heading to the land of Amerigo Vespucci to make nice with their fellow millionaires. We’re talking, of course, about this summer’s International Champions Cup, which is, yes, International, but not necessarily replete with actual champions.
Nevertheless, it’s a chance for James Pallotta to spread the Roma gospel and make a few bucks, while giving the club another chance to ignore bringing in new purchases until after the tournament is over because continuity is best built ten days before the season starts, not, like, in July, you moron.
But don’t let my cynicism dour your spirits, Roma is coming to America!
Fucking Neil Diamond, legend.
Anyway, here is Roma’s ICC docket:
July 19, Venue TBA Paris Saint-Germain v. AS Roma
July 25, New Jersey (Red Bull Arena)AS Roma v. Tottenham Hotspur
July 30, Foxborough (Gillette Stadium)AS Roma v. Juventus
While we’ve all had enough of Juventus over the years, seeing Roma test their summer mettle against PSG and Spurs will be entertaining, and we’ll even get a look at our old friend Erik Lamela, unless Roma somehow purchases him before then. Dare to dream, kids, dare to dream.
The ICC is about as contrived as any other summer tournament, but bringing these clubs to U.S. shores is just good business sense. So when the time comes, cruise on over to the ICC site for ticket information, and if you’re fortunate enough to attend any one of these matches, take plenty of photos and share them on CdT!
