Roma Offer €15M for Dolberg

Is another Ajax assault in the works?

With the ongoing Kostas Manolas saga—the latest twist of which has seen Manolas say no to Zenit, Chelsea deny any involvement and Inter jump back in the fray—Monchi has apparently turned his attention back towards some acquisitions. After signing Hector Moreno and Rick Karsdorp and his already damaged knee for the defense, Poppa Monchi is turning his eyes towards the attack.

After grabbing Karsdorp from Feyenoord, Monchi, much like Mance Rayder before him, continues his assault on the north, turning his watchful eye towards Ajax’s supremely talented prospect, striker Kasper Dolberg, offering a reported €15 million for the 19-year-old Danish talent. Dolberg is fresh off a 23 goal and eight assist season for Ajax (all comps) and has quickly become the crown jewel of prospect market, drawing attention from the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City.

Roma’s initial offer, while seemingly a desperate shot in the dark, is only some five million off Ajax’s mark. However, with the host of names chasing him, one would imagine €20 million is merely the price to get a seat at the negotiating table.

Although KD has a baby face, his presence and skill on the pitch belies his actual age, as Dolberg not only has the ability to play all over the forward line, but he can do a bit of everything—passing, dribbling, playmaking and finishing, leading many to compare him to another Dutchman, Robin van Persie.

Time will tell just who Dolberg becomes, but one thing is for certain, this would be a massive statement from Monchi and Roma. Dolberg is not merely a name hushed in the darkest prospect corners of the world, he is one of the hottest young commodities on the market, so if Roma can beat Barcelona or whomever to the punch, it might be time to take this Monchi makeover seriously.
