We’re not exactly sure why people and players are so attached to the numbers on their backs, they just are. Whether its due to superstition or a loving tribute to a family member or former teammate, people get awfully attached to the integers on their back. During my days as a youth athlete, I was able to avoid this conundrum thanks in part to always being the biggest kid on the team. Whether it was baseball or basketball, the XL shirts always seemed relegated to the worst numbers, so I was stuck with #54 for basketball, a number usually reserved for middle linebackers.
But I digress, yesterday the club and/or league released all the official kit numbers for the league’s 20 clubs. For Roma, not much has changed. As we’ve seen during the pre-season, Bruno Peres jumped to the number 25 shirt, while Alisson will don the traditional keeper shirt, number one. Kolarov has seemingly changed his preseason #13 for the #11 shirt, previously occupied by Juan Iturbe, who didn’t even make the list...hmmm.
Meanwhile, Francesco Totti’s #10 remains untouched, as it should.
