They weren’t the champions we were promised earlier this summer, nor will they fill the current void on Roma’s forward right flank, but Monchi did a bit of business today, snapping up a pair of adolescent attackers, well one is about to turn twenty, but whatever, you get what I’m saying. It’s somewhat ironic, after spending his whole summer being the anti-Sabatini—signing veterans and, you know, doing so before August—Monchi is doing his best impression of Roma’s former marlboro man.
In two separate and completely unexpected moves, Roma signed soon-to-be 20-year-old creative midfielder Rezan Corlu from Brondby for a “minimal” fee. Brondby’s website quoted Corlu as saying
Naturally it was difficult to say goodbye to Brondby, as I have played here since I was four years old...But it was difficult to say no to an offer from Roma. After my knee injury, I see this opportunity in Italy as a fresh start.
The internet didn’t waste much time compiling that video, huh?
In a separate move, the club announced the capture of 18-year-old Slovenian striker Zan Celar for a cool €1 million plus a 10% cut of any future transfer fee.
I’m not even sure if that’s him in the video, but we’ll run with it!
In all seriousness, it’s not even fair to speculate on what type of player these kids are or may be simply because they’re resume is virtually non-existent. But credit Monchi with this much, he’s casting a wide net.
Now about that right winger...
