Yesterday, we reported on the possibility of 32 year old striker Edin Dzeko being offered a raise and extension. Today news has broken of another possible extension being handed out by the Roma front office. This time the reports of a contract extension are being linked to Roma icon Daniele De Rossi.

De Rossi, 35, has a contract that pays him €3 million and expires at the end of the current season. There were many who thought that this could be the end for the Roman born club legend. However, with a strong season behind him, it looks as if there is a mutual desire to extend his Roma career at least another season. And if reports are true De Rossi would be willing to take a 50% pay cut to €1.5 million to make it happen. The deal would also likely include bonuses, as well.

De Rossi no longer can feature in 30 plus matches at his age. However, last season he proved that in big matches he still has what it takes to make a difference. This was most evident in the Champions League comeback against Barcelona. With Steven N’Zonzi in the fold, De Rossi should be afforded plenty of days off so that he can save his best for the matches where he is most needed.

It’s said that De Rossi wants this extension with the intention of finishing his career in the only shirt he’s ever worn. With De Rossi following in the footsteps of Francesco Totti, and Alessandro Florenzi following in his, it looks like the tradition of loyal Romans playing out their prime years at Olimpico remains strong. For these club legends, loyalty to the Giallorossi can never be questioned.
