Credit Paulo Fonseca with this much: he ain't afraid to call a spade a spade. In the wake of his club's surprising 2-0 defeat away to Parma, where they hadn't lost in several years, Fonseca didn't shy away when asked about Roma's current level of fitness, admitting the club's recent schedule was starting to wear his players down:
I think the team was certainly tired out there today. These players had played in all of our recent games and it’s nothing to do with their attitude. They’ve covered so much ground and were tired, slower and not as quick to react as they usually area. I think what happened out there today is clear to see.
There were some tactical issues to be certain, but Javier Pastore, Aleksandar Kolarov and Edin Dzeko seemed to be carrying some heavy legs as the match wore on. Fonseca was spot on, they were not as quick to react as usual, which certainly seemed to contribute to Roma's inability to unlock Parma's compact defense.
