Word has been around Roma circles for some time now that Alessio Riccardi is the crown jewel of the Roma youth set up. Riccardi has been one of the stars of Roma’s Primavera all season long; earning his senior team debut in the Coppa Italia with the Giallorossi earlier this season. In recent weeks Riccardi has routinely dressed for i Lupi during Serie A matches. Now his star is beginning to shine just a little bit brighter.
Riccardi, who has been part of the Italy youth set up since the U-15 level, received his first call-up to a senior team training camp. On Monday and Tuesday Roberto Mancini will hold a training camp for some Italy’s brightest young stars. Riccardi is one of the thirty-five players who will participate; joining him and representing Roma also will be Nicolò Zaniolo and Luca Pellegrini (currently on loan at Cagliari). The three young Roma men will look to make a strong impression on the Italy CT who is looking to build a strong foundation for Italy’s future centered around youth.
