It wasn’t a vintage Roma performance by any means, but three points were a must for the Giallorossi. Who was the man that had the biggest impact on the result in Roma’s 1-0 victory at the Marassi?

The Candidates

Daniele De Rossi

Many questioned what De Rossi had left in the tank in what has been an injury riddled season for the Captain. However, DDR showed that he still has what it takes to have an impactful 90’ when Roma needs it most. Il Capitano tapped home the only goal in a crucial 1-0 victory. However, that wasn’t his only impact. De Rossi also made four interceptions and three clearances to go along with four accurate long balls.

Never count out the skipper.

Kostas Manolas

Manolas was sorely missed mid-week though suspension and made his presence felt today. The Greek was massive at the back for Roma. Manolas had nine clearances, four interceptions, three tackles, two blocks, and won one aerial duel. His performance was vital in Roma’s first clean sheet in ages. He needs to be on the field if Roma are to stay in the Champions League race.

Federico Fazio

Fazio may not have shined quite as bright as his defensive partner, Manolas. However, he deserves a mention for helping keep Fabio Quagliarella off the scoresheet with eight clearances, three interceptions, two aerials won, one tackle, and one block. This is the Fazio Roma need by Manolas’ side the rest of the way.

Aleksandar Kolarov

Kolarov may not have stood out as much as some of the other players on this list but he was impactful; earning the highest player rating on whoscored. Kolarov was solid defensively with four tackles, two clearances, and a block. Meanwhile, he made five key passes and seven accurate crosses in attack, while his 59 touches led the team.

Bryan Cristante

Cristante paired well with De Rossi in the double pivot and worked hard for his side. The Italian put in a solid defensive performance in the midfield with five clearances, four interceptions, and two blocks, while winning two aerial duels. On offensive he had three shots and completed 88.4% of his 43 passes.
