Roma’s Champions League hopes continue to hang on to life support with just two matches to go, but one thing is for certain; without a win at the Olimpico against Juve they would’ve been all but dead. It wasn’t an all around great game from the Giallorossi, who dodged some bullets over the 90 minutes. Yet, they got the job done and some players stepped up to make sure Roma got the three points. Who do you think should be named Roma’s man of the match?

The Candidates

Antonio Mirante

There’s no question that there has been a correlation between Roma’s improved defensive record and Mirante being named the starting keeper. Today was no different. Mirante was monstrous for Roma between the sticks today, especially in the first half. Mirante made huge saves on Juan Cuadrado and Paulo Dybala in the first 16 minutes of the match. This one could’ve been over long before half had it not been for Mirante. Top notch from the veteran Italian.

Steven N’Zonzi

N’Zonzi’s performances have been markedly better under Ranieri’s tactics and today the Frenchman again put in a strong showing in the center of the park. N’Zonzi continuously broke up Juve attacks in the midfield with five total tackles, two interceptions, and two blocked shots. Ronaldo won’t have fond memories of N’Zonzi on this day.

Alessandro Florenzi

Florenzi will never be a stalwart right back and can at times be a liability. However, he can push the wing in attack from the back with the best of them and today was no different. Florenzi unlocked the Juve defense on a lovely one-two with Dzeko to put Roma in the lead in the 79th. Today’s Captain stepped up when his squad needed him the most.

Edin Dzeko

A massive performance from the Big Bosnian, who was constantly harassed by Giorgio Chiellini. However, it was Dzeko who got the last laugh. The veteran striker was involved in both Roma goals; setting up Florenzi with a lovely pass on the first and clinically finishing off the match in stoppage time for Roma’s second. It’s this version of Dzeko that makes you want him to stick around a bit longer.
