They say that necessity is the mother of invention, and with Roma in need of another wide player, Gianluca Petrachi has struck quickly to fill that void. While Roma have been tracking Matteo Politano for a few weeks now, the loss of Nicolo Zaniolo ratcheted up the pressure on Petrachi, who was believed to be scouting Milan's Suso in addition to Politano.
But that was only one side of the equation and fortunately for Roma, Petrachi found a willing trading partner in Inter Milan. With Antonio Conte's side struggling to find a consistent presence on the left side of his defense, fate seems to have conspired to bring Roma and Inter Milan together for this transaction—the proposed Matteo Politano for Leonardo Spinazzola swap.
A swap that, according to multiple reports, is creeping closer towards reality. Sky Sport reported earlier that the clubs have agreed to a deal and that Politano and Spinazzola will be heading to their respective new homes for medical examinations tomorrow.
None of the sources involved, namely Sky, have speculated on the financial components of the deal, but this report seems to indicate that, for accounting purposes, Inter will send Politano plus €8 million to acquire Spinazzola; the sum representing the approximate difference in their valuation.
Nothing is official yet of course, but we'll provide updates as they become available.
