Highlights of Roma's 5-2 Win Over Benevento

While we hate to admit it, sometimes football matches are decidedly entirely by luck. A mere five minutes into the match, before either side really even broke a sweat, Roma found themselves on the short end of the stick as Benevento grabbed a surprising lead in only the fifth minute when Gianluca Caprari's shot deflected off Roger Ibañez's calf. Going for the block was the right move by Ibañez, but the confluence of fate and physics conspired to (at least temporarily) doom Roma.

Benevento is the traditional home of witches in Italy (according to the legends), and it seemed like they cast a spell on Roma in the early moments of this match, as the Giallorossi struggled to maintain a cohesive approach from defense through transition and into the final third.

Fortunately, Roma were able to break the hex today, storming back after conceding an equalizer to Benevento before dusting off the visitors in a 5-2 drubbing, punctuated by a sensational final goal from Carles Pérez.

After an inauspicious start to the 2020-2021 season, Roma have now won two consecutive matches, setting themselves up well for a tough week: a trip to Bern to face BSC Young Boys in the Europa League before a Monday night showdown against first place AC Milan on the 26th.
