After their draw turned loss against Hellas Verona on opening day and watching Cristiano Ronaldo soar over them to score the equalizer in a 2-2 draw against Juventus, Paulo Fonseca and Roma were desperate for a win this evening in Friuli. It could have been a 4-0 blow out or a 95th minute 1-0 winner; it didn't matter how they did it, Roma just needed a win.
In some respects, Roma were outplayed by bottom dwelling Udinese, but thanks to Pedro's first goal in a Roma shirt and some stellar defensive work from Roger Ibañez, Marash Kumbulla and Gianluca Mancini, the Giallorossi secured three sorely needed points.
Time will tell if this victory will propel Roma to greater heights, and while it wasn't the most resounding victory we've ever seen, it does send Roma into the international break on a high note.
