Just two years ago Torino was flying high behind one of Serie A’s best defenses, finishing seventh and qualifying for the Europa League. However, last year the wheels fell off despite Walter Mazzari returning with the majority of the team. The Granata narrowly avoided relegation, but this season Il Toro is again struggling—sitting 19th in the table after 11 rounds on just six points.

To get the lowdown on what’s gone wrong for Torino I brought on a special guest: Rob Gillman. Rob runs TorinoFCInglese.com and is the author of From Serie B to Bilbao: An in-depth look at Giampiero Ventura’s five-year reign as Torino coach, which is available as an eBook on Amazon.

In this episode Rob helped me prep for Thursday’s match by discussing the following topics:

  • Torino’s defensive issues
  • The transition from Mazzari to Giampaolo
  • Andrea Belotti
  • Best players/biggest disappointments
  • Key match-ups
