With the league-wide results falling in their favor yesterday, Roma had a golden opportunity tonight at the Stadio Olimpico. After watching Sassuolo, Juventus, and Napoli drop points on Wednesday, all Roma had to do to secure fourth place on the table was topple 19th place Torino; a side they defeated in four of their last six meetings, including a 3-2 barn burner in July.
And things got even easier for Roma once the match kicked off, as Torino went down to ten men after only 14 minutes thanks to Wilfried Songo drawing two yellows in the span of seven minutes.
And sure, it wasn't the sort of drubbing you'd expect considering Roma were up a man for 76 minutes, but they kept Torino under wraps for most of tonight's match and did all the little things right en route to a well-deserved 3-1 win. With 67% possession, 89% passing, and nearly 40% of their shots on target, Roma were simply the better team, numerical advantages or not.
