After months of speculation and leaks, Roma made official today what we've long expected: they're going retro for next season's home kits, their final shirt in a successful eight year stint with Nike; a deal they rescinded just last week. And if this is indeed truly it for Roma and the world's biggest athletic supplier, they're going out with bang.

Check out this stunner:

As you can see, the kit leaks were 100% accurate, as the shirt features the same band of red-orange-yellow on the chest offset by a deep maroon trim that began popping up in kit leaks this past winter.

On the inspiration for this new look, Roma looked to the 1970s for certain design elements, re-imagining the 1978-1979 “ghiacciolo” (‘ice lolly’) shirt, which featured a nearly identical red-orange-yellow shoulder spectrum.

The club provided further detail on the font, shorts and sock pairings;

Roma’s new home kit comprises the traditional deep red shirt, shorts and socks. The horizontal stripes stretch across the chest of the shirt, starting in yellow and scaling upwards through orange to red.

The design is topped by a dark red panel which runs from shoulder to shoulder and encompasses a crew neck collar. The same dark red appears on the trim of the sleeves and on stripes which run down the sides of the torso.

A white squad number and yellow detailing appear on the shorts, while the deep red socks are topped with coloured hoops that match the shirt design.

The word ‘Roma’ appears on the calf, and also inside the shirt as an added detail - underlining the passion for the club and the city.

Cruise on over to the official site, where the kits are available for purchase now, and you can get a sneak peak at the letter and number fonts:

Looks pretty dope, right? We don't know if Serie A is marching ahead with their plan for universal fonts for next season, but that particular font works perfectly with this shirt.

If the club holds true to form, they'll wear this shirt during the final home match of the season: July 26th against Fiorentina.
