When facing a team that was recently relegated, you simply never know what to expect. Will they be so depressed that they'll simply run through the motions or, with literally nothing to play for beyond pride, will they pull out all the stops and shoot for the moon? In the early stages of today's match, SPAL seemed to be leaning towards the latter tactic.

Sure, SPAL didn't have the talent to match the Giallorossi—especially not with Andrea Petagna sitting on the bench—but they showed little hesitation in the early stages of this match, doing their best to counter Roma at every turn. After falling behind on a somewhat controversial goal by Nikola Kalinic, SPAL countered back in the 24th minute. Suddenly, Roma were in danger of dropping points to SPAL for the third time in their last four matches.
