As we discussed in our match preview, Roma are facing an opening day like no other. With the transfer market lingering into October this year due to the pandemic delays, several teams around the league are scrambling to round out their squads for 2020-2021, but I'm not sure any team is spinning as many plates as Roma. Edin Dzeko, Arkadiusz Milik, Cengiz Ünder and a few minor pieces still aren't 100% certain where they'll be playing football this year, an unknown that may play a big role in today's match.
As it turns out, Fonseca is erring on the side of caution, leaving Dzeko out of the starting eleven after all, but there are still a few surprises—Cristante starting at center-back and Mirante gets the nod in goal.
