They almost did it. They almost scored a completely unexpected upset over Juventus. With the forces of the Serie A rumor mill pinning down Roma with all their might, Paulo Fonseca's men nearly quieted the critics with a shocking 2-1 victory over Juventus. After trading blows with the Old Lady for 15 or 20 minutes, Roma began to assert themselves as the first half wore on, surging to a 2-1 lead during stoppage time thanks to a lightning quick counter attack capped off by Jordan Veretout's second strike of the match.

Things looked even sweeter in the second half, where Edin Dzeko had two golden chances to increase Roma's lead. And then in the 62nd minute, when Adrien Rabiot was sent off for accumulated yellows, the fates finally seemed settled on handing Roma a much deserved victory.

But, as you can tell from the headline, it wasn’t meant to be, as Juventus continued to hunt for a goal, eventually finding an equalizer thanks to an exquisite display of athleticism from Cristiano Ronaldo, who absolutely skied over the hapless duo of Gianluca Mancini and Bruno Peres to deny Roma the full three points.

Still, despite the unpleasant ending, it was as good a Roma v. Juve match as we've seen in quite some time.
