There was a moment—however fleeting it may have been—early in today's match when it seemed like Crotone might give Roma fits. Through the opening five to seven minutes of today's match, Crotone made the most of what little possession they had, springing Simy into space behind Roma's backline with some well-placed longballs over the top.
We hadn't quite reached the point of panic or doom scrolling Roma Twitter, but your mind likely went to a dark place. Could Roma possibly toss points away to last place Crotone? Would they follow up their gutty 1-0 victory over Sampdoria with an epic upset on the road? They couldn't possibly sink that low, right?
Well, thanks to Borja Mayoral, those questions were quickly and definitively rendered moot, as Roma's 23-year-old striker put the Sharks to sleep with two goals in a 20-minute span. And for good measure, he drew the penalty that Henrikh Mkhitaryan converted to truly put this game to rest.
So, just in case you weren't able to escape work today, dig the highlights.
