Corriere: Roma Interested in Udinese Keeper Juan Musso

Could the Udinese keeper be Pau Lopez's replacement next season?

Pau Lopez may have reclaimed the starting keeper gig from Antonio Mirante, but that doesn't mean his future with Roma any more secure than it was several months ago. With nearly two years of inconsistent and, at times, erratic play, Roma are reportedly in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer. Given Lopez's initial transfer fee and salary, it won't be easy to find a taker for the 26-year-old but that hasn't stopped Roma from window shopping.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Roma GM Tiago Pinto has narrowed his focus to one keeper, and ironically enough, it's the same one they'll face this weekend against Udinese.

While the CdS didn't get into financial figures, they tab Udinese's 26-year-old Argentinian keeper Juan Musso as Roma's top choice between the sticks for 2022 and beyond. Musso, who has been with Udinese since 2018, has slowly transformed himself into one of Italy’s best keepers and has been linked with Inter Milan over the past several weeks.

Rated at €20 million and with two more years on his deal, Musso certainly won't come cheap but he has ideal size (6’3”) and an excellent blend of reflexes, technique, aggression, and recovery speed in the box.

Roma will likely have to fend off several clubs for Musso's signature, so let's consider that €20 million valuation merely a starting point for negotiations.

The CdS also speculated that Roma will look to Andrea Belotti or Dusan Vlahovic as options to replace Edin Dzeko this summer. We profiled both of them, as well as several other options, late last month.
