Roma Draws Ajax In Europa League Quarterfinals

Roma and Ajax will square off in the EL quarterfinals, their first meeting in nearly 20 years.

After besting BSC Young Boys, CSKA Sofia, and CFR Cluj in the Europa League Group stage, Roma then made quick work of Braga in the Round of 32, breezing past their Portuguese opponents by a 5-1 aggregate scoreline, the very same margin by which they just defeated Shakhtar Donetsk in the Round of 16. Combine their group stage victories with their knockout stage successes and Roma have thoroughly dominated their European adversaries to the tune of a 23-7 scoreline.

The oddsmakers probably still prefer one of the remaining English clubs, but few teams remaining in this competition have been as dominant as Roma, who have advanced to the quarterfinals of a European competition for the second time in the past three years. You all remember the last time, right?

And earlier today at a ceremony in Switzerland, Roma's quarterfinal fate was revealed as the Giallorossi were drawn against Duch club Ajax in the Europa League quarterfinals.

The quarterfinals will be contested over two legs: April 8th in Amsterdam and April 15th back in Roma. The winner of this tie will face the winner of the Manchester United vs. Granada quarterfinal matchup.

Ajax and Roma haven't met since the 2002-2003 Champions League when Ajax narrowly bested the Giallorossi by a 3-2 aggregate scoreline. Ajax are currently pacing the Eredivisie by a comfortable eight-point margin over second-place PSV Eindhoven.

We'll have much more on this matchup as the first leg approaches, but for now, how are we feeling about this draw?
