Official: Roma Unveils New Away Kits

Reaching into the past, Roma and New Balance present a rather clean look for this year's away shirts.

AS Roma

After prematurely ending their pact with Nike, Roma quickly pivoted to Massachusetts-based New Balance to outfit the squad for the next few years. In typical Friedkin fashion, the entire courtship was kept under lock and key, with journalists trading in their transfer talk for some good old fashion sartorial speculation. But rather than indulging in leaks, the club kept everyone at arm's length before announcing their New Balance deal last February.

And after months and months of guesswork, the club finally unveiled their first home shirt with New Balance earlier this summer. Draped in traditional Roma red and yellow with precious few embellishments, New Balance played it safe with their first-ever Giallorossi strip.

After receiving mostly positive reviews, fans have been anxiously awaiting the reveal of the new away shirt. Well, wait no more—it's here!

From the official press release:

The new away shirt draws inspiration from the club’s 1978-79 away kit, a striking look which marked the beginning of one of the most successful chapters in the club’s history.

Mirroring the atmosphere of the Curva Sud and its sea of flags and banners – the away strip’s colour palette echoes the heartbeat of the Stadio Olimpico.

The premium all-white design features contrast ribboning on the cuffs and reverse collar in yellow, red, and orange – celebrating and highlighting the globally recognised colours of the Giallorossi...

Shorts and socks in matching tones complete the look, whilst an engineered body map is included on the reverse for ventilation and moisture-wicking,

The goalkeeper kit, meanwhile, arrives in orange with a yellow speckled graphic.

Similar to the home kit, it looks like Roma and New Balance decided to play it safe here—and there’s nothing wrong with that. Evoking the lollipop look from the late 1970s certainly played well on last season's home shirts, so the club is at least treading a popular path with these new kits.

You won't have to wait long to see these unis in action as the club will wear them in tomorrow's Europa Conference League match against Trabzonspor.

In the meantime, tell us what you think of Roma's 2021-2022 away shirt!
