What Roma's 2021 summer transfer market lacked in volume, it more than made up for in total costs. Between their four new purchases and outstanding loan payments, the Giallorossi spent (or will once all the future installments are paid) €97.75 million this summer; a figure that jumps to €102.75 million if we include the €5 million bonus in Tammy Abraham's transfer deal with Chelsea.
While José Mourinho and Tiago Pinto reportedly spent deadline day chasing a veteran midfielder, the late links to players like Sergio Oliviera quickly disappeared, while the club reportedly passed on a chance to sign Manchester United's Donny van de Beek. Roma did make a few minor deals with some U-23 prospects, but by and large, it was a pretty quiet deadline day in the Eternal City.
We'll take a deeper look at the club's summer transfer campaign and its implications for the club's short and long-term future in the coming days, but for now, here is a general accounting of Roma's now-completed summer shopping season.
