A.S. Roma vs. Fotbal Club Sheriff Tiraspol: Lineups and Match Thread

Europa League Group G, Matchday Six

After a disappointing draw to Fiorentina that left the Giallorossi without several of their key players, the squad must do the best that it can to pick up the pieces and finish their time in the Europa League group stage on a high note. Sheriff F.C. haven’t been the group’s most challenging opponent; they’ve only notched one point through five group stage matches. Yet a convincing win for Roma today will allow them to fight for first place in the group, a result that would make their continued march through the Europa League knockout stages that much easier. This match also presents an opportunity for Mourinho to tinker with his lineups, both out of necessity and due to Sheriff’s comparative lack of quality.

This has given Romanisti a slightly out-of-the-ordinary lineup to consider; for their final European night in 2023, José Mourinho has decided to give chances in the starting eleven to Mile Svilar, Zeki Çelik, and a returning Renato Sanches. Watch to see if Sanches can make it through even 60 minutes of this match; if he can, I’ll start believing in his ability to be a game-changer for the Giallorossi over the next six months of the season.

In addition to those more unusual starts, Svilar, Çelik, and Sanches are also joined by Houssem Aouar despite his recent poor form, while Romelu Lukaku and Nicola Zalewski get the start at least in part due to their suspension for the upcoming Serie A match against Bologna.
