Roma vs. Napoli: Lineups & Game Thread

Here's a sentence I didn't think I would write back in August: Both Roma and Napoli need a win today just to keep pace with Bologna and Fiorentina. While the Viola haven't taken the league by storm to the same extent as Bologna, they are nevertheless one of the biggest surprises of the first half of the season. With Bologna and Fiorentina nestled in fourth and fifth place, respectively, Roma and reigning league champions Napoli have a bit of catching up to do.

For Napoli, it's simply been a matter of poor personnel decisions, as the choice to replace Luciano Spalletti with Rudi Garcia was an epic failure. But any club that boasts Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia can turn a match (and potentially a season) on its head at a moment's notice. Roma, meanwhile, has been done in by an amalgam of poor play, constant injuries, and a tactical approach that hasn't always gone according to plan.

So, while they've both taken different paths to their current disappointing destination, both clubs will be eager to secure a convincing three points today.

The lineups are in, so let's get down to business!
