While Roma’s draw to Servette in the midweek match was a disappointment, Giallorossi fans need to get up off the mat today and hope that the squad can do the same by securing victory against Sassuolo away. The later match between Inter and Napoli will certainly be on the team’s mind, as a win here and a loss for Napoli could result in Roma being tied for fourth in Serie A — bringing I Lupi that much closer to Champions League qualification after several seasons of missing out.
The full week gap between this match and matchday fifteen against Fiorentina has allowed José Mourinho to start something close to his preferred starting eleven, though eyebrows will definitely be raised that the poor form of long-time starter Leonardo Spinazzola has not resulted in a swap-out for Nicola Zalewski. With rumors indicating that Spinazzola might be leaving Roma in January, this may be the last chance saloon for the Italian international; if he underperforms today, you can bet your bottom dollar that he will be replaced by the Polish international.
