Even after Dean Huijsen's unexpected (and solid) debut against Atalanta last weekend, Roma is still in the market for a new center-back. After all, Huijsen is only assured to be with the Giallorossi through the end of June. And while many Romanisti hope that Roma and Juve can find some way to extend the loan, Tiao Pinto remains diligent in his search for a slightly longer-term solution to the club's lack of depth at the back.
According to L'Equipe, Roma's soon-to-be ex-General Manager has narrowed his focus to Lille center-back Alexsandro Ribeiro. Not to be confused with Alphonso Ribeiro of Fresh Prince fame, this Ribeiro is a 24-year-old, 6'3" Brazilian center-back who signed with Lille from Portuguese club Chaves in the summer of 2022.
Valued at only €7 million by Transfermarkt, Roma isn't exactly shopping at the top of the center-back market, but Ribeiro would bring added heft to a backline in dire need of healthy bodies. What's more, Ribeiro has entrenched himself in Lille's lineup this season, making 14 league starts for Les Dogues, and with three goals last season, Ribeiro can even make a bit of noise in the final third.
Given Roma's financial limitations, L'Equipe reasons that Pinto will try to acquire Ribeiro on loan with an obligation to buy.
