While we await Roma's next meltdown, let's turn our eyes towards the other half of the globe, towards Australia, the world's largest island and its smallest continent. You may not like what I have to say around here, but at least you're learning something (I think, don't quote me on that....Sam?). Beyond being a semi-mythical place, Australia is home to Roma's latest joey, Perth Glory midfielder Daniel De Silva, whom we profiled last summer when the seeds of this move were planted.
Whether the news that came down on Sunday was actually "news" or just the official announcement of the deal struck over the summer we cannot say. What is for certain, however, is that Danny De Silva, aka The Dude From Downunder, aka DDS, aka The Dentist has officially been sold to Roma for €2m.
DDS, an 18-year-old midfielder currently plying his trade on Australia's west coast, is best known for this sublime volley from late last year:
But what you may not know is that De Silva made his professional debut for Perth at only 15-years-old. Australian league or not, that's an impressive feat.
While DDS is slated to join Roma at the beginning of the 2015-2016 season, per club policy he will be required to rot on the bench for a year before going on loan, following which he will either be loaned out again and sold to Inter several years later, or will return to Roma to once more rot on the bench alongside fellow wunderkinds Salih Uçan and Antonio Sanabria.
Nevertheless, join me in congratulating Daniel De Silva on the next step in his career.
Good on ya, mate!
