With the Riyad Mahrez to Roma rumor looking increasingly dead and buried—Mahrez reportedly only wants to move to a “big six” English club—we can safely presume Roma will now get serious about their dozen or so Plan Bs, to which I say, good. Something about Mahrez always rubbed me the wrong way; that magical 2015-2016 season was such an anomaly, the odds of Roma reaping the full €40 million of value from him was bound to be low.
So here we are, Roma are now not only looking at other options, but submitting formal bids. Last week’s Plan B, Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez, was up first, with Roma’s €30 million offer being rebuffed in no short order, leaving Roma searching for Plan C, which seems to be Borussia Dortmund’s Turkish attacking midfielder/winger Emre Mor.
Mor, 20-years-old, only moved to BvB last summer but found playing time hard to come by, grossing only 500 some odd minutes in the Bundesliga last season. Despite that lack of playing time, Mor is still a pretty sought after kid in Italy.
How sought after you ask?
Well, Fiorentina reportedly have the framework of a €13 million deal in place with their German counterparts, but as well all know, nothing is real until it is. Enter Roma. Reports circulating today suggest that Monchi is attempting to jump the queue, placing a €20 million offer on the table for Mor.
This wouldn’t be the first time Roma played interloper in Fiorentina’s transfer plans—we all remember the Mohamed Salah fiasco a few years ago—and, at least in this instance, Roma would seem to have the upper hand. Not only was their bid higher, but they can offer Champions League football and the chance to play with the one and only Cengiz Under, Mor’s fellow Turkish sensation.
This one sort of came out of nowhere, so it could go one of two ways: A) Mor is already in Rome taking a medical and will be unveiled in, like, twenty minutes, or B) this drags on for about three weeks.
I’m not sure I can stomach anymore of this, but it would be funny to see Roma upend another Viola transfer.
