I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m in the midst of the laziest of Sundays. Whether it’s the rain outside or the plethora of suggestions on my Netflix queue, I’ve done sweet f.a. today, and loved every minute of it. Monchi, it seems, is making the most out of his Sunday, attempting to strip Ajax of two of their most important assets, Justin Kluivert and Hakim Ziyech. While some €10 million is preventing the former from moving to Roma, Monchi isn’t letting that deter him from the latter. (While we’re at it, Monchi, make a move for Kasper Dolberg, too).

While no official figures have been leaked anywhere, that is but one of many Tweets claiming Roma have either a) lodged an official bid or b) already brokered a deal for the 25-year-old Moroccan playmaker, who, with nearly 60 goals and 60 assists over the past five seasons, quite literally has nothing left to prove in the Eredivisie and is reportedly keen a move abroad.

We’ve spoken about Ziyech at length over the past year or so, but here’s the gist: he’s exactly what this team needs. Not only can he play virtually anywhere in attack, but he’s one of the most productive players in Europe, full stop. With 165 shots attempted and 143 chances created in league play last season, Ziyech was the most productive player (in terms of shot contributions) in Europe.

Nearly every transfer target we’ve discussed this spring comes with rather large question marks. For Justin Kluivert it’s simply age and preparedness, for Bryan Cristante it’s a combination of actual need and perceived athleticism, while for Mario Balotelli it’s mainly between the ears, but Ziyech is about as seamless a fit as Monchi will find on the transfer market. Not to repeat myself, but he is EXACTLY what this team needs.

Ziyech and Roma are the perfect marriage of need and opportunity; it’s about as symbiotic as silly season gets. So whether he costs €20 million or €30 million, it’s a cost Roma simply has to pay.

Go get this guy, Monchi...NOW!
