Outside of a lot of hustle, Gregoire Defrel left much to be desired in his first season with the Giallorossi. After joining from Sassuolo last season, it now looks like he won’t get a chance to make a second impression in Rome. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Sampdoria have sped things up in their search for an attacker to replace the recently departed Duvan Zapata. Their number one target: Defrel.

According to Di Marzio, Roma and Sampdoria are close to an agreement that would see Defrel move to the Luigi Ferraris on loan. The deal would also include the option to buy for Samp. The buyout would bring the total cost to around €20 million.
Defrel is on the list of 27 players that will participate in Roma’s upcoming American tour. However, Di Marzio is reporting that Defrel will not depart for the States with the team tomorrow, which could be another indication that he’s played his last game with Roma this summer.
