Roma will be well represented when Italy begins its Euro 2020 qualifying campaign next weekend against Finland and Lichtenstein. Four Lupi players were recalled by Italy CT Roberto Mancini on Friday when he named his 29 man roster for the upcoming qualifiers. The four players representing Roma is the second most of any club for this round of qualifying; Juve leads the way with six. Alessandro Florenzi, Stephan El Shaarawy, Bryan Cristante, and Nicolò Zaniolo make up the quartet that will represent the Giallorossi in Azzurro.

  • Florenzi is the fourth most capped player on the current roster with 31, trailing only Giorgio Chiellini (100), Leonardo Bonucci (85), and Ciro Immobile (35). Despite currently enduring a rough stretch of games, the 28 year old Roma remains a fixture in Mancini’s side.
  • On the opposite side of the spectrum, Zaniolo will be looking to earn his first Italy cap at just 19 years old. He is one of five uncapped players on the current call-up list along with Gianluca Mancini, Moise Kean, Alessio Cragno, and Armando Izzo.
  • El Shaarawy, who is enjoying a solid season as Roma’s leading scorer, will look to make his first Italy appearance under Mancini’s leadership. The 26 year old hasn’t appeared in an Azzurri match since the World Cup qualifying elimination at the hands of Sweden in November 2017. With regular starter Lorenzo Insigne out injured, one would think that El Shaarawy is in the running to start on the left side of attack.
  • Cristante will look to make his second appearance in Azzurro as a Roma player and seventh overall. His last Italy match was against Portugal in the Nations League last September.
